The Woodlands development was established in the mid-nineteen eighties, consisting initially of The Woodlands Homeowners development and The Woodlands Club. The neighborhood and club were carved from a large tract of undeveloped land located off Woods Road and approximately equidistant from the Maine Turnpike and Interstate 295.
The Woodlands Fairway Villas, which was launched in 2000, represented a second phase of The Woodlands development, and has been successfully built out to the present forty-eight occupied units.
On the other side of Woods Road from the neighborhood, there is a large tract of land which serves as a wildlife refuge and also provides several miles of forested walking trails.
