Maine is home to 40 plus public and private colleges and universities offering technical, associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in a variety of disciplines. Shopping Near Falmouth, Maine
Freeport sits twenty minutes away on the north shore of beautiful Casco Bay. Headquarters for L.L. Bean and well known for its outlet shopping, the town is rich in history and recreational opportunities.
The Maine Mall located in South Portland is the largest enclosed shopping mall in northern New England. Anchored by Bon Ton, Best Buy, JCPenney, Macy’s, and Sears, the mall features over 140 tenants, a food court and several ancillary restaurant and retail locations.
Downtown Portland shopping from Congress Street to the Old Port District offers an eclectic blend of shops and dining.
The Kittery Premium Outlets include five individual outlet centers offering 65 designer and name brand outlets and dining located along Route 1.
Maine National Parks and Trails
Portland Trails curates over 70 miles of trails for outdoor adventures in all seasons. They are dedicated to creating a network of trails in greater Portland, Maine that is available to everyone free of charge.
Baxter State Park is a large wilderness area located in north-central Maine and permanently preserved as a state park. The park – deeded by founder and benefactor Governor Percival P. Baxter to be “forever wild” – is home to the state’s highest peak, Katahdin.
Acadia National Park has a rich history and culture dating back to its creation in 1919. It is located on the coast of Down East Maine, covering most of Mount Desert Island and smaller Atlantic Coast islands. First discovered in 1604, the area and landscape has remained much the same for the past 400 years, with the addition of fifty-seven miles of beautiful carriage trails and granite bridges that were built and donated to the park by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. during the early part of the twentieth century.
Maine Beaches
Maine Beaches are less well known than Maine’s rocky coastline and picturesque lighthouses, but Southern Maine is home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Maine’s first 30 miles of coast just south of Portland and down to the New Hampshire border is the Riviera of New England.
